Summer’s just around the corner and right now there’s no better place to go than a good garden centre to stock up onn growing bags, compost and, of f course, to treat yourself to something omething new for the garden. It’s the perfect time to fill those patioatio pots and add some colour too your borders and there’ll be a bewildering array of plants in bloom to tempt you. Petunias have become the traditional choice for baskets andd patio pots and there are lots of newew colours, many in pastel shades, so they don’t have to be gaudy. The star of your summer show could be the new ‘NightSky’, which has uniquely-spotted flowers.
Growing pots of lilies and herbaceous plants, just coming into flower, are the perfect way to plump up beds after the spring flowers have finished and are the ideal gift when visiting friends for a barbecue this weekend – just make sure they’re watered well after planting if you buy them for yourself.
Pots of herbs also make welcome gifts when visiting friends, being fragrant, immediately useful, longterm garden subjects that are attractive, too.
