It’s time to think about juggling the garden again, taking stock and grasping opportunities to re-plan. Autumn’s a good time to lift and move shrubs and generally plant! Warm soil and cooler, damper weather enables plants to settle in and make root so they get off to a flying start in spring. This week we take a look at colourful evergreens (p14) that also add valuable structure to the garden and the best plants for growing under trees (p18). Nothing announces the end of summer like the dahlia. It’s as if someone flicks a switch and suddenly these gorgeous flowers illuminate the garden. It’s a season that can be the best of the year, so let’s celebrate all that’s on offer.
