Earth up Christmas potatoes

Garden News (UK) - - What To Do -

If you planted cold-stored potato tubers in July or August, ready for a freshly-dug treat with your festive dinner, the foliage should be developing now and it’s time to earth them up. Cover the leaves with fresh compost as they emerge to give tubers more room to grow and to protect them from sunlight, keeping them nice and white. Do this right up to 5cm (2in) from the top of the container. Water and feed your potato pots regularly with a general liquid fertiliser. Move the pots under cover or protect with fleece overnight if frost is forecast.
