1 Lift – If you want to lift your tu­bers and corms, wait un­til frost has black­ened the leaves, then gen­tly lift with a fork.

2 Snap off stems – Shake off ex­cess soil from your lifted tu­bers and corms, then cut down the stems to 5cm (2in).

3 Dry and store – Wash off cling­ing soil or pests and dry out for a few days, be­fore keep­ing in a dark, frost-free place.

4 Mulch – If you’re leav­ing corms and tu­bers in the ground, add a thick, dry mulch of bark or com­post for pro­tec­tion.
