Scarify to remove dead material

-

Although scarifying is considered an autumn job, it’s easier in spring. There are no worries with wet leaves covering the lawn and conditions underfoot are likely to be drier. There’s also the added bonus of the ‘thatch’ (dead grass material at the bo om of the lawn) that you remove being useful for birds building nests, so leave it for them. Pull a lawn rake through the lawn to remove the dead grass material from the bo om of the lawn. It will highlight bare areas, expose weeds and help grass ‘stand tall’ so fewer blades of grass are missed next time you mow it.
