Four more plants that need winter protection

Garden News (UK) - - Gardening with the Experts -

Bananas Musa basjoo

is one of the hardiest bananas in the UK, but should still be protected in all but the mildest gardens.

Most cestrums won’t tolerate temperatures lower than -5C (23F), so they need to be either moved indoors or protected.

Fig plants themselves are hardy, but wrapping (or moving indoors) will protect the embryonic fruits.

Protect by cutting stems right down to ground level and mulching with bark, manure or compost.
