Count your chickens

-

I was surprised to read that Alan Titchmarsh does not find his chickens endearing ( Tales from Titchmarsh, April issue). I have to disagree, as I could watch my rare-breed chickens for hours. The cockerel is lovely – he takes gifts (grapes or something nice he has found) to his favourite girl. The hens are beautiful and, as a bonus, lay lovely brown and white eggs. An electric fence protects them from foxes, and in eight years none of our chickens has been attacked. Sorrell Fielding, by Facebook What a joy it was to read Tales from Titchmarsh (April issue) and to realise I was justified in handing over my rogue chickens to a city farm after only six months. How Alan has coped with them for over 30 years I will never know. He has always been my gardening hero and I think he deserves a medal.
