Our monthly roundup of gardening news – plus celebrating 50 years on TV Gardening showtime – Berlin style
A new international garden festival, IGA, that dwarfs the scale of this month’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show has launched in Germany. Running until 15 October, it will host gardens by top designers including multi- RHS-goldmedal-winner Tom Stuart-Smith, plus over 100 specialist plant nurseries and weekly exhibitions. Filling a space the size of 128 football pitches, the festival has a budget of over 100m for the event and its legacy projects, which include a 1.5km-long cable car, a newly created nature park and a 5,000-seat outdoor arena. Among the garden highlights are a huge tropical greenhouse showcasing Balinese planting and a market garden area created with local allotmenteers. Tickets cost from 20 at iga-berlin-2017.de
