Q How can I get rid of fertiliser stains from my lawn?

-

Teresa Griffiths, by email

A MATTHEW SAYS The rustlike staining could be scorch from the fertiliser, but is more likely to be the weedkiller doing its job, causing the dying weed foliage to turn brown. You should now scarify the area, either with a machine or rake, to remove this dead material, then top dress with a soil-sand mix.
