What is the best mix of ingredients for a compost bin?

Gardeners' World - - Small-space Composting -

A 50/50 mix of ‘green’ and ‘brown’ materials is best, but some ingredients are trickier to find in urban homes and gardens. Do not add disease- or virus-affected plants or pernicious perennial weed roots, weed seeds or seedheads. Council compost heaps reach very high temperatures, which kill these off, but a domestic heap will never get hot enough.

Green

Vegetable peelings Leafy materials from plants Grass clippings ( in layers and not too much at once) Nettles Annual weeds Comfrey (without roots) Tea bags Coffee grounds

Brown

Cardboard and cardboard tubes Shredded paper Hay and straw Sawdust and woodshavings Hedge clippings Autumn leaves (again in layers) Eggshells
