Can you ex­plain the rea­son­ing of the peo­ple be­hind the Trees For Life scheme to move red squir­rels from gar­dens to Scot­land? ‘Gar­den­ers help squir­rels’ ( Clip­pings, Jan­u­ary is­sue). How would they like to be forcibly moved from their homes to the high­lands of Scot­land? Squir­rels are wild crea­tures and should be left alone – most wild an­i­mals adapt to changes as long as hu­mans don’t in­ter­vene. Paul Chan­dler, Worcs We say This ini­tia­tive was to move squir­rels from other parts of Scot­land to na­tional parks, where they can, and in­deed have flour­ished. The ideal habi­tat en­cour­ages them to spread out and breed to in­crease their num­bers.
