Keep on deadheading
Late-season flushes of flowers can be kept going for a few more weeks by picking off the fading blooms. Late-flowered perennials, such as asters, heleniums and salvias, will keep providing colour for some time yet. Roses will produce a few more flowers into the autumn but won’t develop bright winter hips if you keep deadheading so you need to make that choice before you snip the old flowers off.
