Tulipa ‘Evergreen’

Gardens Illustrated Magazine - - Dig In Plantsman’s Favourites -

This is possibly the longest-flowering tulip of all with flowers continuing well into June and lasting for weeks in the house as a cut flower. The secret of this extraordinary stamina is the chlorophyll held within the petals, which photosynthesise in much the same way as foliage does to provide sustenance to the plant. The soft, green flowers are useful in the more quiet areas of the garden where loud colours might look too brazen. ‘Evergreen’ sits well with wallflowers or sweet rocket. If using as a cut flower, arrange with alliums and honesty for a striking display. Height 45cm. Origin Garden origin. Conditions Any garden soil. Hardiness RHS H7. Season Spring.
