Towering cricket wickets suggest temple pillars at the entrance to this strongly geometric garden that’s inspired by the Mughal gardens of northern India. Low walls of pietra dura inlaid marble frame the garden. The eye is led down the central ‘crease’ to a water tank where two Salix babylonica appear to float on the surface. The rectangular beds on either side of the central path are planted with species that are important to Indian culture, such as marigold and jasmine, and plants from the Indian subcontinent that have horticultural connections with Britain, such as Meconopsis and Vanda orchids. Floating above the brightly coloured planting, on single stems, is a layer of cup-shaped planters resembling cricket balls cut in two. Contact 01256 895754, saraheberle.com
