LAKESIDE

-

TOP gun Nicky Walters shot 38 Stableford points to take the 13th staging of the winter-long Winter League competition at the Lakeside club in Margam.

Eight pars were garnished with birdies on holes seven and 16, as former club captain Walters set up a slender one-point win over Brian Channell.

A two on hole eight allied to eight pars from Channell wasn’t good enough to overhaul Walters while Dave Burridge came third on 35 points (six pars).

Putting genius Bob Lind entered the snug with 34 points (birdie on hole 13) while Derek Pitt and Alun Thomas dug 33 points out of their rounds.

Seventh-placed Andrew Colquhoun got 32 points with horticultural expert Dennis Gould signing for 30 points.

Cliff Richards, who has been top of the pops at Lakeside for years, got a top-10 entry with 29 points along with Peter Wooster, Bobby Thomas, Clifford Morris and George Kinsey.
