GIAN-MARCO Petrozzi (Trentham) was the wireto-wire winner last weekend of the Welsh Open Strokeplay Championship at The Vale Resort in Hensol, writes Tony Poole.
Rounds of 66, 69, 70, 74 for a 13 under par total of 279 saw him win the event by nine shots from Jack Grant (Drayton Park). Next on the scoreboard came two Welsh internationals Jack Davidson (Llanwern) who shot 289 and Owen Edwards (Kendleshire) on 291.
Timothy Harry from host club Vale Resort was tied fifth on 292 blows with Jake Hapgood (Southerndown) tied 29th, finishing on 302 along with Delan Hau (Vale Resort).
Four Southerndown competitors – brothers Kyle and Keiron Harman, Jaco van Der Merwe and Nathan Chilcott – all failed to make the halfway cut that came on 152 (six over par) together with Jamie Jones (Pyle & Kenfig).
