GIAN-MARCO Petrozzi (Trentham) was the wireto-wire winner last weekend of the Welsh Open Strokeplay Championsh­ip at The Vale Resort in Hensol, writes Tony Poole.

Rounds of 66, 69, 70, 74 for a 13 under par total of 279 saw him win the event by nine shots from Jack Grant (Drayton Park). Next on the scoreboard came two Welsh internatio­nals Jack Davidson (Llanwern) who shot 289 and Owen Edwards (Kendleshir­e) on 291.

Timothy Harry from host club Vale Resort was tied fifth on 292 blows with Jake Hapgood (Southerndo­wn) tied 29th, finishing on 302 along with Delan Hau (Vale Resort).

Four Southerndo­wn competitor­s – brothers Kyle and Keiron Harman, Jaco van Der Merwe and Nathan Chilcott – all failed to make the halfway cut that came on 152 (six over par) together with Jamie Jones (Pyle & Kenfig).
