RICHARD D Jones and James Tuck both shot aggregate scores of 162 shots at the end of the Royal Porthcawl Strokeplay Championship, writes Tony Poole.
Wet and windy conditions last Sunday out on the Lock’s Common golf course led to just five competitors completing two rounds.
James Tuck took the second-round event with a score of 82-4-78 that contained a birdie on the penultimate hole and eight pars.
Best gross round came from Jones with 80-1-79 courtesy of birdies on holes one, 15 and 17 together with six pars.
The only other competitors to complete second rounds were Bleddyn Taylor 88-6-82 (birdie on 17 and eight pars), Anthony Jenkins 90-6-84 and Steve Bull 98-8-90.
That resulted in aggregate scores of Jones 82+80 = 162, Tuck 80+82 = 162, Taylor 86+88 = 174, Jenkins 86+90 = 176 and Bull 103+98 = 201. recorded best gross score via 92-16-76 (three pars).
Scrolling down the scoreboard resulted in Helen Loo finishing third with 112-34-78 while Ali Churchouse was another low gross scorer on the strength of 92-13-79 (five pars).
On the same 79-shot mark came Janet Booth with 108-29-79.

Molly Stockwood Foursomes: Ali Churchouse/ Lyn Walters v Sarah Morris/Christine James or Helen Evans/Margo Woolford. numbered holes and for even numbered holes the better two of the three scores were recorded. The equivalent par score over the full 18 holes would, therefore, be 54 Stableford points. The competition was keenly fought but the eventual winners, with a nine better than par score of 63 points were David Hughes, Brian Peacock and Dave Llewellyn. In second place, just one point behind, were Fred Evans, Gordon Campbell and Ainslie Adams.
