Get in line to join comic Rich Hall’s Hoedown

Glamorgan Gazette - - Your Diary -

A COMEDIAN known for improvising songs about the town he is playing in is coming to Maesteg.

American Rich Hall, who makes regular TV appearances and has presented documentaries on BBC4, is playing six shows in Wales and says he’s glad to be back performing live in his UK-wide tour Hoedown. “I love being on stage”, he said. “I love the fact that when a live show is over, it’s gone. It’s happened, and it will never happen like that again. It can’t be replicated. That’s a great magical moment.”

Rich, who is also an accomplished author and has released three books, ‘Magnificent Bastards’, ‘I Blame Society’ and ‘Things Snowball’, thrives on the spontaneity of live comedy.

He said: “In every single show, there are always two or three moments where I’m thinking, ‘Wow, where did that come from?’ You’re constantly thinking on your feet.”

He also goes out of his way to find out about the town he is playing in and then improvises a song on stage about it.

“I try to tap into what is happening locally and address that musically by writing an improvised song based on the town I’m in.”

Rich Hall’s Hoedown will be at Maesteg Town Hall on Thursday, September 28, at 8pm. Parental Guidance 14+. Tickets £17.50 from the box office on 01656 815995.
