Man dies fol­low­ing ‘as­sault’

A MAN has died of his in­juries fol­low­ing an al­leged as­sault out­side a hospi­tal three weeks ear­lier.

Gavin Rees, 24, was taken to the Uni­ver­sity Hospi­tal of Wales, Cardiff, with se­ri­ous in­juries after an in­ci­dent which hap­pened in a car park out­side Maesteg Com­mu­nity Hospi­tal at about 6.15pm on Au­gust 30.

He died as a re­sult of his in­juries on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 20.

South Wales Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses fol­low­ing Mr Rees’ death.

A po­lice state­ment said: “A 44-year-old man from Llan­harry, who was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of caus­ing griev­ous bod­ily harm with in­tent after the in­ci­dent, re­mains on po­lice bail while fur­ther in­quiries are car­ried out.”
