PORT TALBOT & DISTRICT RESERVE LEAGUE
PORT TALBOT TOWN B 1 FC PORTHCAWL ........... 2
TWO goals from Dan Burt led to FC Porthcawl Seconds banking all three points against Porthcawl Town B at Lock’s Lane in this vibrant derby clash, writes Tony Poole.
Following a delay caused by a clash of colours in kits, the mean Green Machine from Rest Bay soon made up for lost time with colourful Ryan Black hitting the woodwork.
Andrew Bowden also tested the strength of the cross bar before the visitors took the lead in the approach to half time.
Bowden played the ball into the path of Burt, who put on a spurt before drilling a low shot into the corner of the net.
Injuries led to the Green Machine having to shuffle resources and two minutes into the second period, the Seasiders were awarded a penalty.
From the spot, Callum Endicott got the meas- ure of goalkeeper Connor Jones only for the new kids on the Porthcawl block to retake the lead.
They created a few chances before Burt once more struck – and they went on to control the remainder of a well-contested derby.
And close to time prime-potter Steve Davies had a great chance to snooker the Seasiders, but his close range shot was off cue.
“Well done to FC Porthcawl on the win in a tight derby contest,” said Porthcawl Town secretary Martyn Morgan.
“Though we were disappointed in failing to pick up a point, credit must go to both clubs for playing a derby clash in the true spirit of the game.”
