First woman chief of Na­tional Eisteddfod

A WOMAN has been ap­pointed chief ex­ec­u­tive of the Na­tional Eisteddfod of Wales for the first time.

Bet­san Moses will suc­ceed Elfed Roberts who will re­tire after 30 years at the helm.

Ms Moses re­turns to the Na­tional Eisteddfod after spend­ing the past decade as the Arts Coun­cil for Wales’ PR chief.

She was pre­vi­ously head of com­mu­ni­ca­tions for the Eisteddfod.

She said: “The Eisteddfod is an in­te­gral part of our her­itage. I’m look­ing for­ward to work­ing with the com­mit­ted staff and vol­un­teers as we con­tinue to de­velop the fes­ti­val in the future, dis­cov- er­ing new op­por­tu­ni­ties to cel­e­brate the Welsh lan­guage and our cul­ture across Wales.”

Ei­fion Lloyd Jones, pres­i­dent of the Na­tional Eisteddfod Court and chair of trustees, said: “We are de­lighted to wel­come Bet­san back to the team.

“Her na­tional and in­ter­na­tional ex­pe­ri­ences with the Arts Coun­cil for Wales will be in­valu­able for us as we em­bark on a new pe­riod in our his­tory.”

Ms Moses, from Pon­ty­berem, near Llanelli will join the Eisteddfod in June and Elfed Roberts will re­tire fol­low­ing this year’s fes­ti­val in Cardiff Bay in Au­gust.
