WELSH JUNIOR INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
TWO Bridgend athletes picked up bronze medals in the Junior Indoor Track & Field Championships staged in Cardiff.
Jack O’Brien was third in the Boys U13 60 metres while Emily Penny did likewise in the corresponding Girls U15 event.
The previous weekend young O’Brien won Bridgend Junior 2k Parkrun for a 26th time in 63 Newbridge Fields runs.
In the Welsh Indoor Championships, he clocked 8.65 seconds with the competition won by Oliver Clarkson (Swansea Harriers) in 8.31 from Joshua Beecher (Cardiff AAC) 8.32.
Just outside the medals in fourth position was Lewis Stephens (Bridgend), who registered a time of 8.67.
Meanwhile, Emily Penny clocked a personal best 8.22 while winner Gabby Dickinson (Cardiff AAC) got pb 8.13 and runner-up Ella Wintle (Pembrokeshire Harriers) pb 8.17.
In the U15 Girls 300m final, Jersey Jones (Bridgend) was also just outside the medal positions in fourth spot.
Her time was 45.58 seconds while the winner, Ella Wintle (Pembrokeshire Harriers), clocked 43.13.
