BRIAN NICHOLAS last week displayed the bulldog spirit in pulling off a superb victory in a February Stableford event at Royal Porthcawl.
The former Bridgend and Maesteg rugby star allayed fears that he had peaked too soon in his illustrious golf career.
Having the previous week not bothered to hand in his card, Nicholas put on his Sunday best to shoot 38 points in wintry conditions out on the Rest Bay golf course.
His card oozed consistent golf – it contained 11 pars and seven bogeys – but the eight-handicapper only had a shot in hand over another former rugby star – Bleddyn Taylor.
The ex-Swansea flier carded a two on the 14th green; he matched par on 12 occasions and there were five bogeys.
