BRIDGEND Athletic RFC are once again grateful to Simon Apsee of JH Apsee & Sons, removals and storage specialists for sponsoring their recent fixture with Waunarlwydd at the Morganstone Brewery Field.
Simon and his highly reputable company have been involved with the Athletic across the 40 odd years that they have been trading and are the longest contributing Athletic club sponsors. They also sponsored this season’s all-weather suits for substitutes.
Grandfather John Apsee, founder of the business, became involved with the Athletic when his eldest son, current head coach John, played in the youth in 1977 before representing Maesteg, Bridgend and Wales B at cen- tre. Younger son Simon, now the principle in the company, played back row for the Athletic and Bridgend. Their sons Dan (No 8) and Rhodri (prop) have also represented the Athletic and Bridgend and are current Maltese internationals. Dan has made 189 senior Athletic appearances, while Rhodri has made 62, including a recent permit game from the Ravens against Ammanford.
Sponsors like the Apsees have allowed Bridgend Athletic to thrive and, since its formation in 1972, provide rugby for over 400 players weekly, from Under 7s to Youth and Senior level. This support has been vital in seeing many Welsh Youth and Senior Welsh caps emerge from its base, as well as two British & Irish Lions in a great success story over the last 45 years.
