LLANGYNWYD RANGERS ...................... 3 CARDIFF CORRIES ...... 0

IF ever a club deserved a victory then it was plucky Llangynwyd Rangers against Cardiff Corries at Tudor Park in Maesteg, writes Tony Poole.

Having lost all 19 league games – 15 goals for with 121 conceded – the omens weren’t bright for the bottom-placed side.

But against all odds, Llan pulled off a victory against the club lying just one place above them in the league table.

Owing to burst-pipe problems in their pavilion, permission was eventually granted for the game to be switched to Maesteg Park.

“Given the circumstances this season, this has to be marked down as one of the most richly deserved victories in club history,” said delighted Llan Rangers chief Mark Jenkins.

“It was a fantastic achievement for a team that contained the nucleus of last season’s Bridgend League Under-16 side.

“Hopefully, Bridgend Council and the football authorities will now back us in our hour of need.’’

Llan created a hatful of early chances through Ioan Jones, Connor Price and Daniel Cornish.

But it was captain fantastic Lloyd Howells who sent the Llan Siro Babes in front with his third goal of the campaign.

It stemmed from a Cornish corner on the half- hour mark – and from that point on Llan simply grew in confidence.

The back-four were composed throughout while the safe hands of goalkeeper Tom Burns frustrated the Radyr men.

Though playing into the wind during the second half, a counter-attacking policy held Llan in good stead.

With Corries having to push men forward, Llan caught them on the break and Cornish chipped the onrushing goalkeeper.

And despite going down to 10 men through a seemingly harsh red card, Llan wrapped things up via a fine Shaun White strike.

Llan Rangers host Pontlottyn on Saturday – given the continued problems with the pavilion, the venue is uncertain.
