KENFIG Hill salvaged four points last week from a Division One defeat against Taibach at The Plough, writes Tony Poole.
In a split-rink contest that Taibach won 71-56, the issue was decided on the rink headed by home skip Bryn Rendall, who triumphed 29-5.
In Division Two, Prince of Wales Court Hawks slid to a 71-59 defeat away to Port Talbot Ynys.
Last year’s Division Three champions, however, could also only win on two rinks with skip Kevin Egan leading Ynys to victory via a 21-14 rink success.
But Maesteg maintained a productive start to their campaign in Division Three with a slender oneshot win, 60-59, against Tata Steel in Margam.
In yet another split-rink outcome, Maesteg skip Bob Lloyd handed in a 20-11 winning card, as the Llynfi Valley side made it three victories from four starts.
Caerau Athletic were another side to bank four points out of a losing situation – in their case going down 60-54 to BP Llandarcy Tankers at the Riverboat.
In Division Four, Cefn Cribwr toasted a first league win of the season after exiting Cymmer with a six-shot victory, 72-66.
Skip David Thomas was the star of the show for the Riders, carding a landslide 35-8 win. And unbeaten Bridgend Municipal pulled off another victory, sweeping to a 71-63 success over Port Talbot Municipal in Newbridge Fields.
Skip Mal Jones, who triumphed 21-13, was the leading light in them making it three wins from as many starts.
But Pencoed surrendered an unbeaten tag in Division Five following an 86-59 loss away to Melyn Borough.
