COWBRIDGE .......... 140-1 MAESTEG CELTIC .139-7
MAESTEG Celtic 2nds, in a rotten run of form having lost their last four fixtures, looked to put things right as they travelled to Cowbridge on Saturday. The home side won the toss and elected to field as Maesteg Celtic struggled early on.
The away side did pull it back as the over went on with Elliot Colston making 36 runs and Thomas Davies, 28 respectively. Good performances from Colston and Davies ensured the Celtics would end their reduced innings (40) on a reasonable 139 total.
Cowbridge started their batting innings better than their counterparts. Jonathan Webb carried the bat on his way to 34 runs, but the standout performance was that of captain David Gascoyne as he sailed to an excellent 66 and put the win within sight for his side.
Gascoyne was eventually caught out by Celtic’s Lyndon Harris, but that would matter little as Heath Webb was on hand to provide the extra runs his side needed, making 18, and with just under 5 overs to spare, the home side would get over the line and win by 9 runs.
