A MAN who won a top prize at this year’s National Eisteddfod in Cardiff will be ordained into the Gorsedd at next year’s event.

Rhydian Jenkins won the Aled Lloyd Davies Award in the Unawd Cerdd Dant Blue Ribbon competition for ages 21 and over.

By winning this prize, Rhydian will be ordained into the Gorsedd at next year’s National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst, Conwy, where he will wear the white robe.

Rhydian also came second in the Lady Herbert Memorial Award, which was the Folk Song Solo Blue Ribbon competition for ages 21 and over.

Rhydian would like to thank Ann Fox for her support and guidance and for two memorable cerdd dant compositions that enabled him to win this prestigious award.

It is also very fitting that in Llanrwst at the 1989 National Eisteddfod, Ann herself was ordained into the Gorsedd for winning the same competition.

Rhydian also thanks Eleri Roberts, Kim Lloyd Jones, Lauren Phillips and Adrian Thompson for their continued support, tuition and friendship.

Outside of the Eisteddfod, Rhydian is a past pupil of Ysgol Cynwyd Sant and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd, and he has recently graduated from Cardiff University with a BA Honours in Welsh.
