BRIDGEND County Borough Council has raised more than half a million pounds from issuing parking fines over the past two years.

The local authority issued fines totalling £255,065 between the middle of May 2017 to the middle of May 2018.

The previous year, for the same period, it issued fines totalling £265,257.

All fines related to parking penalty charge notices.

Parking offences that can lead to a penalty charge include people parking for longer than they should in councilrun car parks, parking on double yellow lines, parking on bus stops, parking without a permit in permit-controlled areas, or parking on school “keep clear” zones and pedestrian crossings with zig-zags.

By law, surplus funds raised through issuing fines must be put back into the parking service.
