Brid­gend Cas­tle Play­ers: Brid­gend Cas­tle Play­ers are proud to present their lat­est pro­duc­tion: ‘Caught on the Hop’, a com­edy in two acts, writ­ten and di­rected by Phil Nash.

The play will be held at Bet­tws Com­mu­nity Club on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 6/Fri­day, Septem­ber 7, with doors open­ing at 7pm and the show start­ing at 7.30pm.

Tick­ets cost £6 each (which in­cludes a buffet) and will be avail­able be­fore­hand via Brid­gend Cas­tle Play­ers’ Trea­surer, Rhian – trea­surer@brid­gend­castle­play­ers.org or call 07814 881445, and at Bet­tws Com­mu­nity Club.

To avoid dis­ap­point­ment, pur­chase of tick­ets in ad­vance is es­sen­tial, how­ever a small num­ber will be avail­able on the door each night, sub­ject to avail­abil­ity.

Brid­gend And District Quiz League: Brid­gend & District Quiz League is start­ing its 46th sea­son on Mon­day, Septem­ber 3 at Tondu Rail­way Club (next to Tondu rail­way sta­tion CF32 9DY) for team regis­tra­tion and a free, fun, open to all, gen­eral knowl­edge quiz, start­ing at 8pm, with a buffet pro­vided after the quiz.

Come along, have a drink and a chat, ex­er­cise your grey mat­ter and meet new friends. There is no obli­ga­tion to join the League.

The League quizzes are played on Mon­day nights at home and away venues through­out the Brid­gend bor­ough, with breaks for Christ­mas and New Year.

Com­mu­nity Path Clear­ing Squad: A group of vol­un­teers have been busy tidy­ing the over­grown com­mu­nity path from Llangeinor Cross­ing to Blaen­garw.

The next clear­ing ses­sion will take place on Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day, Au­gust 27, with ev­ery­one meet­ing at 10am near the Braichy in Pon­tyrhyl.

The path is a well loved and much used life­line for Garw and the valley would be lost with­out it. Any ex­tra help would be very wel­come in­deed.

Bavo Vol­un­teer Awards: Brid­gend As­so­ci­a­tion of Vol­un­tary Or­gan­i­sa­tions (BAVO) wants to recog­nise and hon­our out­stand­ing peo­ple and or­gan­i­sa­tions that have made a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to our com­mu­nity dur­ing the past year and they want to hear from you! Do you know any in­di­vid­ual or group who has made an out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to their com­mu­nity? Would you like to help give them the recog­ni­tion they de­serve? Ev­ery year thou­sands of in­di­vid­u­als and groups vol­un­teer across Brid­gend County Bor­ough to give their time, en­ergy, skills and com­mit­ment to help oth­ers in their com­mu­nity.

BAVO is hold­ing their an­nual Brid­gend Vol­un­teer Achieve­ment Awards 2018 in Novem­ber at the Heron­ston Ho­tel in Brid­gend, which will pro­vide an ideal op­por­tu­nity to recog­nise and thank vol­un­teers in the county bor­ough.

There are eight cat­e­gories in­clud­ing awards for char­ity shop of the year, be­friend­ing and men­tor­ing, vol­un­teers aged un­der and over 25 years, Trustee of the year, vol­un­teer project of the year, sports vol­un­teer and out­stand­ing vol­un­teer con­tri­bu­tion.

Or­chard Man­age­ment at Bryn­garw: Re­cent years have seen great en­hance­ments to the or­chard at Bryn­garw Coun­try Park, with new sculp­tures, benches and an in­au­gu­ral ap­plepress­ing com­mu­nity event! Septem­ber’s vol­un­teer event, on Satur­day, Septem­ber 1, will be ded­i­cated to en­sur­ing that this spe­cial area of the park re­mains in top con­di­tion, with a hay rake, bram­ble/ bracken bash and gen­eral tidy up. And of course, ap­ple-press­ing!

Tools and train­ing are pro­vided for all vol­un­teer events. Please wear suit­able cloth­ing and footwear. All chil­dren un­der 16 must be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult. Meet at Cedars Tea Rooms at 10am, bring a packed lunch and we will fin­ish around 2pm.
