Community Path Clearing Squad: A group of volunteers have been busy tidying the overgrown community path from Llangeinor Crossing to Blaengarw.
The next clearing session will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, with everyone meeting at 10am near the Braichy in Pontyrhyl.
The path is a well loved and much used lifeline for Garw and the valley would be lost without it. Any extra help would be very welcome indeed.
Bavo Volunteer Awards: Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO) wants to recognise and honour outstanding people and organisations that have made a significant contribution to our community during the past year and they want to hear from you! Do you know any individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to their community? Would you like to help give them the recognition they deserve? Every year thousands of individuals and groups volunteer across Bridgend County Borough to give their time, energy, skills and commitment to help others in their community.
BAVO is holding their annual Bridgend Volunteer Achievement Awards 2018 in November at the Heronston Hotel in Bridgend, which will provide an ideal opportunity to recognise and thank volunteers in the county borough.
There are eight categories including awards for charity shop of the year, befriending and mentoring, volunteers aged under and over 25 years, Trustee of the year, volunteer project of the year, sports volunteer and outstanding volunteer contribution.
The deadline for nominations is 12 noon on Tuesday, September 4. For nomination forms visit the volunteering section of www.bavo. org.uk or call BAVO’s Bridgend Volunteer Centre, T: 01656 660372.

And of course, apple-pressing!
