DAVID de Gea will face a determined and persuasive Ander Herrera as United look to hold on to their goalkeeper.

There have been renewed reports Real Madrid are not ready to ditch their long-running dream of luring the 26-year-old Spaniard back to his home city and the Bernabeu.

The fact United’s No.2 keeper Sergio Romero has signed a new four-year Old Trafford contract to 2021, with the option of an extra 12 months, has fuelled speculation De Gea is set for Madrid.

Reds boss Jose Mourinho has also said No.3 stopper, Joel Pereira, has a bright future, with the manager predicting he will be Portugal’s main man in goal.

But if De Gea, below, needs persuading to stay in Manchester then Basque midfielder Herrera is the man.

“I think De Gea will stay,” Herrera said.

“He’s happy and I know this is going to sound repetitive because I always say the same, but David is one of the few keepers who wins you points. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he stays.”

Countryman Juan Mata is also confident De Gea will remain at Old Trafford, saying: “I think De Gea will stay.”
