● before we begin our next chapter we revisit some of the highlights of the last year: September 18, 2016 Our second book, Reuben’s Rainbows, was launched just after Reuben’s sixth birthday. September 23, 2016 Despite the typically wet British summer, the main building’s roof was completed. September 30, 2016 The first Coffee Connect morning was held, offering informal, peer support for parents and carers of life-limited children November 18, 2016 Wow, £23,000 was raised by Travel Counsellors and their partners at their annual conference. We were absolutely blown away by the love and support. November 26, 2016 The fabulous team from Overbury, Reuben’s daddy Mike and superstar supporters Ben, Katie and Helen scaled City Tower – one of Manchester’s tallest buildings – and abseiled down to a cheering crowd, raising ● thousands of pounds in the process for Reuben’s Retreat. December 1, 2016 After a couple of years off, we relaunched the Reuben’s Retreat complimentary magazine, designed in-house and distributed to 10,000 homes, businesses and supporters each quarter, December 7, 2016 A group of 17 Reuben’s Retreat beneficiaries boarded a flight to meet Santa, thanks to Leeds Bradford Airport. December 23 2016 We received our biggest ever grant of £150,000 from Thomas Cook Children’s Charity towards the renovations of our retreat. We are forever grateful for their belief in our project and to their staff, partners and customers for raising money for causes like ours. February 11, 2017 A super time was had by all at our tribute to Phoenix Nights evening. February 27, 2017 Another milestone – the strip out to clear the “west wing” began, preparing the space for Phases 4, 5 and 6. The works were completed on time and a little under budget. March 18, 2017 Our first activity just for daddies of poorly children was held – our Dads Ramble April 27, 2017 We hosted our first professional open day at the retreat, an open invitation to professionals who support poorly children or bereaved families to visit and see all that we do and understand our vision for the future May 11, 2017 Proud guests and the chosen charity of Norfox Children’s Charity attended the prestigious Insider Property Awards North West with an audience of 1,100 diners. May 28, 2017 For the fifth year in a row we turned the streets of Manchester REUblue at the Great Manchester Run. June 19, 2017 After almost five years in operation and with every aspect of the charity developing at speed, we decided it was time to increase the number of trustees and ideally welcome additional skill-sets, particularly in the areas of legal, clinical/ health or digital media. The application period ended and we were delighted with the response. June 26, 2017 We organised a Child Bereavement UK training course for Reuben’s Retreat staff and volunteers and other professionals. It was an emotional, yet incredibly helpful day, improving our resilience and capacity to support those affected by child loss July 6, 2017 Gorgeous memories were made and lots of pennies and pounds raised at our 1940s Swing Afternoon Tea. July 7, 2017 Dare we say it, our second REUBall was even bigger and better than last year. The theme for 2017 was ‘masquerade’ and our guests didn’t disappoint with their variety of fabulous masks and the surprise singing waiters were a huge success! July 30, 2017 We celebrated 130 years since the retreat’s foundation stone was laid, with staff, volunteers and supporters and releasing 13 doves, one for each decade that the building ● has stood proud August 1, 2017 As of August 1, we have supported 470 children and adults from 251 families from across the UK, from Dorset to Fife, through counselling, wellbeing, holistic therapies and activities and respite breaks. August 23, 2017 Reuben’s Retreat’s fifth birthday! Join us as we embark on the next five years.
