WE have had some great news at Gallery Oldham this week as we received our best ever rating from the Visit England Visitor Attraction Quality scheme.
The customer care, knowledge and efficiency of our visitor services staff was singled out for comment, and a special thanks is due to all of our team for their hard work.
This week it’s all change as we say goodbye to one exhibition and start preparing for our next delivery in addition to receiving all your exciting entries to the Oldham Open!
There’s still just time to catch ‘Edgelands’ ceramicist Emilie Taylor’s exhibition, which we are touring to three other venues in England when it leaves here. The exhibition finishes at Gallery Oldham on Saturday, September 9.
The Oldham Histories Festival and Heritage Open Days brochure has arrived and is available from us and from venues around the borough including Local Studies and Archives and local libraries.
The programme has been organised by Local Studies and Archives and is bigger than ever with many new venues, walks and events across the borough included.
We are delighted to be welcoming the Oldham Microscopical and Natural History Society to the Gallery on Saturday, September 9. There will be a chance to meet our natural history curator, Patricia Francis, see real specimens and historic microscopes and to take a tour of our natural history collection at 11.30am and 2pm.
On Monday, September 11 it’s the turn of our social history curator, Sean Baggaley to lead a guided walk along Union St from 12-1.30pm. And if you’ve always wanted to see the burial place of the legendary ‘Oldham Giant’ in the crypt of the Parish Church or uncover some of the ghostly goings-on in Oldham this is your chance.
Many activities are being run on a drop in basis but some do need to be booked in advance due to limited numbers so please check before you set off.
