The doctor will see you now Surgery launches second branch

- By CONOR GOGARTY

ACHELTENHAM GP surgery has launched its second branch. Springbank Practice has moved its main surgery to the Hester’s Way Healthy Living Centre in Cassin Drive, which is now open to patients.

It will maintain its branch at Springbank Community Resource Centre in Springbank Way.

The practice said its patient list has grown “significantly” in the last two years and is looking to further expand.

Its senior partner, Dr Sanjay Shyamapant, said: “This is really good news for our patients.

“The move and the extra space has given us greater scope to expand our services and help us to meet the health needs of a growing number of patients in the area.”

He thinks the expansion will be a boost to the development of those working at the practice.

“We were pleased to have received support from our Practice Participation Group for this change and are committed to a continuing presence at Springbank Community Resource Centre,” Dr Shyamapant said.

The development will mean more GP and nurse services are available at the Hester’s Way centre from Monday to Friday.

It follows St Catherine’s Surgery’s application to close its branch surgery at the Hester’s Way centre.

Its practice at St Paul’s Medical Centre will continue to run.

Both the St Catherine’s and Springbank Practice applications were approved at a Primary Care Commissioning Committee in June.

St Catherine’s senior partner Dr Graham Wilson said: “This was the right decision for us at a time of consolidation for the practice.

“We are committed to providing excellent care for our patients and ensuring we have a strong, resilient and sustainable practice going forward.

“By locating all our services at our main surgery at St Paul’s Medical Centre, all members of the team can work closely together for the benefit of our 9,600 patients and it also means we are well placed to grow and meet future demands.

“There is a strong sense from our recent patient consultation that people understood the rationale for this decision and we remain committed to providing high quality care at St Paul’s for all our current patients.”

Patients registered with St Catherine’s Surgery continue to have access to its St Paul’s practice. They can also choose to register with another local practice. conor.gogarty@reachplc.com
