Letters and emails to hit the GM offices this month
Call him phenomenal, superb, sublime or any word that comes to mind and you will be describing the greatest golfer in the world.
Gary Player formed a marvellous trio with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, and between them they brought magic to the game. However, Player stands alone. Aged 80, he still plays and competes all over the world and always finds time to return home to South Africa.
In the 2016 Masters he recorded his 31st hole-in-one during the Par 3 Contest and crashed his ceremonial opening drive 20 yards further than his great friend Nicklaus.
He does 1,300 sit-ups before lunch on a daily basis and can still kick shoulder-high with each leg! Hopefully we in the United Kingdom will find a way to honour his presence. Peter Hughes, Burnham
