I write to you just a few short hours after the fantastic contest between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson. I’m positively glowing. That had to be the best final day of The Open, if not any Major, in modern history. Both played absolutely superbly, which made for avid television viewing.
I am so pleased for Henrik winning a Major at last, which is no less than he deserves. To win it in such a manner, with Mickelson himself shooting 65 and still losing by three shots, must have meant a great deal to Henrik.
Hats off also to Mickelson, who, having played so well over four-anda-half hours, had the good grace in defeat to look so pleased for Henrik, and at the same time had some nice words to offer him. Top man.
I do like it when someone new wins a Major. It must be a life-changing experience for them. Phil has won a few himself so he’ll get over it, and he can take consolation in the entertainment he provided the golfing world on that Sunday in Troon. John Parker, Pwllheli
