A week to remember
In early August, I played my most serious competitive round of junior golf in the annual St Andrews Boys’ Open. With an application process of lowest handicap having priority, I ended up on the reserve list. Thankfully, after three agonising weeks, I dropped from 13th reserve to 6th, to 2nd and then the email came through. I had made it! The fourday event consisted of a stroke play round (cut after the first day), followed by three days of intense match play and the possibility of playing the prestigious Old Course.
The first three days were played on the Eden course. With no expectations for the tournament, I approached it with a very open mind. Much to my surprise, however, I made the handicap cut with a net score of 68, placing myself 12th in the 16
