Scott Fenwick
Director of agronomy, Gleneagles
What have been the greatest improvements to your working practices?
When I started here 40 years ago, we did things manually. Now we use a range of automated tools, which has drastically improved efficiency and effectiveness. The introduction of GPS technology has been a game changer, enabling us to maintain the grass with a level of precision that was inconceivable a decade ago.
What challenges have you faced?
Over the last 20 years, many chemicals have quite rightly been taken off the market to protect the environment. While this makes disease control more challenging, it has actually advanced the profession, forcing us to be more strategic and to make the environment as healthy as possible.
