I’ve improved my pitching in the last couple of years with what I like to describe as a more ‘childlike’ approach. For a long period of time I was a bit too systematic – using a clockface system to hit the ball certain distances and perhaps being too aware of positions in my action. I’ve always been very technical because I wanted to have a technique to rely on but I’ve really benefited from transitioning back to being more natural in my approach. Now, I visualise the shot in detail – how it will come off the face, the trajectory, and the bounce and release when it lands – and trust that I can execute it. This has also made me much more creative.
