The an­chor­ing ban stated that, as of Jan­uary 1, 2016, ‘all golfers will be pro­hib­ited from an­chor­ing the club ei­ther “di­rectly” or by use of an “an­chor point” in mak­ing a stroke.’ Play­ers are no longer al­lowed to an­chor the put­ter to any part of the body that pre­vents the club from swing­ing freely. The ques­tion over Langer’s stroke is whether his left hand is in any way touch­ing his chest, thus an­chor­ing the stroke.
