Is Keith Pelley’s grand plan having a positive effect?
The conclusion of last month’s Scottish Open marked the halfway point of the European Tour’s Rolex Series. So is it showing signs of being the success the tour’s CEO Keith Pelley needs it to be? To answer that, we have to go back.
On the Series’ unveiling last November, Pelley said that in replacing the Final Series, one key goal was to create a product that “provides a strong financial offering for our young players so they don’t have to go to the United States.” So he raised the minimum purse to $7m for each event.
Pelley himself says he’s “very pleased with how the Rolex Series has gone so far.” But then he would say that. Here, the numbers tell us more than any soundbites...
