Is Keith Pel­ley’s grand plan hav­ing a pos­i­tive ef­fect?

The con­clu­sion of last month’s Scot­tish Open marked the half­way point of the Euro­pean Tour’s Rolex Series. So is it show­ing signs of be­ing the suc­cess the tour’s CEO Keith Pel­ley needs it to be? To an­swer that, we have to go back.

On the Series’ un­veil­ing last Novem­ber, Pel­ley said that in re­plac­ing the Fi­nal Series, one key goal was to cre­ate a prod­uct that “pro­vides a strong fi­nan­cial of­fer­ing for our young play­ers so they don’t have to go to the United States.” So he raised the min­i­mum purse to $7m for each event.

Pel­ley him­self says he’s “very pleased with how the Rolex Series has gone so far.” But then he would say that. Here, the num­bers tell us more than any sound­bites...
