Close House Northumberland
The European Tour returns to the north of England in September when Lee Westwood hosts the British Masters at Close House.
Westwood – who now lives in Newcastle – often plays, practises and lunches here, and it’s not difficult to understand why.
The Ryder Cup stalwart has also had input into one of Close House’s two courses, the Colt, which is backed up by another 18-holer in the Filly, one of the best practice facilities in the country and a swish clubhouse that serves highcalibre food.
There is also limited but world-class accommodation on site in the form of luxury apartments.
Anyone compiling a ranking of the finest golf resorts in Britain would have to have Close House prominent in their thinking.
