Four stunning renovations

Golf World (UK) - - WISH LIST FOR 2018 -

There is little more than a trickle of new courses opening these days, but there is a lot of outstanding renovation work. Top of our list is Tom Doak’s refurb of Woodhall Spa’s Hotchkin. The first phase of renovation of what was already one of GB&I’s elite courses will be obvious by the summer and expect to find a more open feel, even better heathland conditioning and even some lost bunkers. The high-cost, private JCB course in Staffordshire – by EGD’s Robin Hiseman – is also set to open.

On continental Europe, the Great Northern (1) will fully open. Located near Kerteminde, Denmark, this big-budget operation by Nicklaus Design offers drama on the higher section in particular, when you can see the sea. It is likely to be a Top 100 contender. Further afield, in Mauritius, the upgrade of Le Touessrok (2) will be completed, and that means even more all-world ocean views from this famous island course.
