“REED NEEDS TO SPEAK. AND HE NEEDS TO DO IT SOON .”

Golf World (UK) - - MASTERS REVIEW -

The various reactions to Patrick Reed’s breakthrough at golf’s highest level spoke volumes of the 27-year-old Texan’s chequered history on and off the course. Ever since his college days, allegations of cheating and theft have haunted Reed, albeit he has always denied wrongdoing on both counts.

His family situation is messy too. Famously estranged from his parents and sister – who live only a few miles from Augusta National – the new Masters champion has long been an easy target for criticism, both in the press and from galleries. The relative quiet as he holed his winning putt only highlighted his lack of popularity. The solution is simple. One press conference or interview would do the trick. If Reed were to state his side of the various arguments, there would be a flurry of publicity then blessed silence. He needs to speak. And he needs to do it soon.
