THE ETIQUETTE EXPERT Lucy Hume

LUCY SAYS: ‘It doesn’t matter how casual the wedding, white and cream are still no-go colours for guests. Black can look too sombre, so should generally be avoided unless combined with lighter colours. For an informal wedding, you could opt for a sundress, jumpsuit or trouser suit and flat shoes are fine. Hats are by no means compulsory and, if worn, they are usually removed for the meal. Even if it’s a casual do, if it’s a church wedding shoulders should be covered – so take a jacket that you can drape over your shoulders if your dress is strappy or strapless.’
