IS LISBON THE NEW LA?
MADONNA, 59, IS SAID to have dropped £7 million this year on a house just outside Lisbon after her son, David Banda, 11, was enrolled in the Benfica football team’s youth academy. John Malkovich, 63, is part-owner of a fancy restaurant, Bica do Sapato, in the city. And Monica Bellucci, 53, owns an apartment in the same block as Christian Louboutin, 54, in the Castelo district of the Portuguese capital.
If that wasn’t confirmation enough that Lisbon is 2017’s hottest city, now Michael Fassbender has revealed that he and girlfriend, Alicia Vikander, 29, are ditching London for the city described as a ‘postcard-perfect panorama of cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins and white-domed cathedrals’ by Lonely Planet.
‘At the moment we live in Lisbon,’ he exclusively told Grazia. ‘I like it, I like the people and the fact that it’s right next to the ocean. The weather, the food, the wine is always good. We have a UK base, but Lisbon is becoming home.’
The pair are understood to be living in a £1.5 million luxury apartment in the city, which Michael bought in May after claiming he wanted to leave the UK for the first time in 20 years – partly because of Brexit.
It comes amid news that the couple, who have been dating since 2014, are to marry next month in a secret ceremony in Ibiza. While Michael, 40, declined to comment on the rumours, he did reveal what the couple do in their spare time.
‘ We karaoke. It’s usually something in falsetto,’ he said. ‘I guess my Frank Sinatra is not bad because I’m kind of a baritone. But if I’m ambitious, I’ll try Marvin Gaye or Rihanna. Rihanna went really badly – she was there!’
Belting out Umbrella with Fassbender and Alicia in the sun? We’ll pack our bags!
