PULL ON A POWER POLO

-

A POLO NECK is practical. A polo neck is warm. A polo neck is, in the right circumstances, terribly chic. What a polo neck is not is noteworthy or exciting – or so you thought.

This season, the polo is acquiring unexpected power status in our wardrobes, graduating from a solid supporting role to the Main Event. You could see them on the S/S ’18 catwalks: layered under rodeo shirts at Calvin Klein and with retro florals at Balenciaga, in white sequins at Céline and bold stripes at Louis Vuitton.

And unlike a lot of catwalk trends, the power polo translates seamlessly IRL. At London Fashion Week in February, the street-style set kept snug by layering them under shirts and knits (Calvin Klein’s stretch cotton versions with embroidered necks are already an in-the-know fave). And Victoria Beckham’s been repping the power polo hard recently, teaming knit versions under floaty skirts and shirts.

Layering is key to nailing the power polo. Wearing one under a dress or shirt is cosy, yes (and gives mileage to spring pieces now), but also makes for a modern, unexpected styling update that’s no effort to pull off. We’re sold.
