It took 18 months to restore this Victorian mansion in picturesque Bruntwood Park. The result is a masterpiece of gothic preservation and quirky design.

THE VIBE Fun times are the order of the day at Oddfellows. Grab your mates, check in and proceed directly to The Pigsty Spa. The seriously relaxing signature massage (45 minutes; £50) is fantastically good value, as is the Wallow in Mud treatment (1 person £50; 2 people £80). Bedrooms are quirky but comfortable from top to bottom, with original floors, Jacobean high ceilings and stained glass windows all lovingly restored, plus luxurious beds, Nespresso machines and flat-screen TVS.

EAT Anything at The Galloping Major (a nod to the property’s previous life as a successful stud farm). Do stop in the Stud Bar for cocktails – the signature shakes are a must-try. PACK A bikini for the spa.
