In complete contrast to the open-plan living space at the back of the house is the front living room. ‘I wanted a dark, cosy, library feel because it’s a small room and I needed a retreat from the rest of the house,’ says Caz. She has created this by painting the walls a very dark green (Obsidian green paint by littlegreene.com) and the ceiling a luscious gold (try Leyland Trade’s specialist gold effect semi-gloss metal paint from diy.com). ‘It’s an exterior paint so it has a sturdy, gloss feel,’ says Caz. The neutral colour of the armchairs (ebay.co. uk) is lifted by brightly coloured cushions. The vintage Maclamp, designed by Terence Conran for Habitat, was bought on ebay.co.uk.
