View point: Spirit Island

Grazia (UK) - - Contents -

Overlooked by jagged mountain peaks, and with its cool turquoise water fed by surrounding glaciers, Maligne Lake in the Canadian Rockies is a magical place. Within the lake is Spirit Island, a grove of trees and pristine nature that is connected to the mainland by a shallow isthmus, becoming an isle in summer when the glaciers melt and lake is filled. Only accessible by boat, it’s a four-hour paddle from the nearest dock close to the town of Jasper, or you can take a cruise.
